Plowden and Thompson Ltd
Development of new products and production of technically specialised items in special composition glass. Serving
commercial and recreational customers with a range of coloured rod, powders, chips, tube and raw materials.
We
operate in The Dial Glass Works built in 1788. It was a traditional glass making cone with a diameter of 80 feet.
In 1935 repair work was necessary and so the top was taken off being replaced with an interesting 'Coolie hat' shaped
roof. We now have a chandelier hanging there made up of glass items we make here - this was made for one of the glass
festivals held bi-annually - the next one is August 2012.
We operate pot furnaces to give maximum flexibility for
the different types of glass we are asked to make.
We make Coe 37, 43, 85, 90, 93, 100, 114 etc - all for specific
purposes and having particular properties to suit our diverse customer base.
We blow, cast, press hot glass.
We redraw tubing to give very small diameters. We process tubing to give accurate bore sizes or shapes e.g. square,
triangular, rectangular.
Our policy here is to try to solve your problems in glass.
